With 78 days until the Nov. 5 election, it’s more critical than ever that we get out in our communities and share what’s at stake if Trump is elected and Project 2025 comes to be.
Remember that Project 2025 is a 920-page document that spells out the conservative agenda for the country if conservatives prevail in November. It details plans to abolish parts of the constitution, overturn critical legislation that protects freedom and privacy, and make the United States a playground for the wealthy while the rest of us suffer. It was authored by the right-wing think tank The Heritage Foundation and is co-authored by about 100 partner organizations and billionaires.
Democracy is in peril if Project 2025 becomes a reality. Here’s what it will do:
Give Trump Unprecedented Presidential Power
Never wanting the U.S. to become a monarchy, the founders of our nation set up checks-and-balances system of government. Project 2025 argues that Article II of the Constitution has been interpreted incorrectly and presidents should have more power than the constitution allows.
Purge the Federal Workforce
Project 2025 says there will be a mass gutting of the federal workforce and is already looking to place Trump loyalists in those empty job slots. They are vetting potential employees on their website by asking yes-or-no questions about immigration and abortion.
Turn Government Offices and Federal Law Enforcement Against U.S. Citizens
Trump has talked about utilizing his new Justice Department — the ones he plans to replace career federal law enforcement personnel with — to go after some of his highest-profile critics in a second term. Project 2025 would give him this authority.
Impose Religious Beliefs on Private Citizens
Project 2025 wants to erode separation of church and state, claiming that secular policies have ruined the country and that progressives have attacked religion.
Harm Low-Income Americans
Project 2025 would reinstate work requirements for people who receive public assistance and create more barriers to eligibility. It would roll back the Biden administration’s addition of more nutritional foods to food stamp benefits and loosen labeling regulations for baby food and formula.
Criminalize Abortion Nationwide
Page 6 of Project 2025 threatens, “The Dobbs decision was just the beginning.” It goes on to say the next conservative president should “push as hard as possible to protect the unborn in every jurisdiction in America.” It would criminalize abortion pills and provides no exceptions.
Eliminate the Department of Education
The department that employees about 4,400 federal workers and has been around since 1867 would no longer exist. ED provides funding for children with disabilities, handles federal student loans and loan forgiveness, provides work assistants, supports tribal schools, and collects data to better serve teachers, students, and communities.
Steal Funding from Schools
Project 2025 will weaken our education system by forcing employers to see unaccredited education programs as equal to a bachelor’s degree and take money from education institutions they consider “woke” and give it to private religious schools.
Dismantle Privacy and Freedom for Minority Groups
Project 2025 would endanger LGBTQ+ Americans, dismantling hard-fought rights and protections. Project 2025 states that the First Amendment doesn’t protect transgender individuals and punishes every institution that uses the phrase “diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
Threaten Workers and Unions
It makes it easier for employers to get rid of works’ unions in the middle of contracts, union-bust, gut national overtime and minimum-wage laws, put worker safety at risk, end public sector unions, and gut retirement benefits for hardworking Americans.
Drive Up Inflation
Project 2025 is pro-corporate, always defaulting to large corporations and never workers. These policies would drive up costs, put many people out of work, harm the environment, endanger people’s lives and make it harder to get ahead.
Make Life Pure Hell for All Immigrants
Project 2025 will deport more than 500,000 dreamers, refuse to provide U.S. citizens with federal housing subsidies if they live with anyone who is not a U.S. citizen, and allow law enforcement to racially profile, and make states share identification information with federal authorities.
We have 79 crucial days to defeat Project 2025 and ensure democracy is part of the next phase of America.
