Walz is the Perfect Pick to Puncture Project 2025

Who Is Tim Walz and How Will He Help Us Win?

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’ VP pick, is a big tent kind of candidate. That’s not a fat joke, I’m saying that Walz holds so many different identities that make him relatable to many.

Walz quickly picked up endorsements from Manchin, AOC, and Beto. He’s possibly one of the only Democrats who could net such a wide cross-section of enthusiasts. So who is Tim Walz, and how will he handle the biggest threat to democracy in U.S. history, Project 2025? I’m happy to explain why I see Walz as the perfect match against the far-right’s assault against freedom, safety, and privacy.

Walz is an Army National Guard veteran who won’t stand by as Trump and Project 2025 threaten to mobilize American troops against citizens.

Walz is a former football coach who won’t accept the excuse of “locker room talk” as Trump and Republicans try to minimize sexual assault.

The same year he coached his rural high school football team to victory, Walz helped his students start a Gay-Straight Alliance as faculty coordinator. He had seen the way some students had been bullied, and even though it was 1999 and same sex marriage was unpopular even among Democrats, Walz knew the club would help LGBTQ+ students feel seen and safe. Walz will not stand for Project 2025’s attacks against LGBTQ+ Americans.

Walz was a geography teacher who won’t stand by as Trump and Project 2025 try to dismantle our Education Department.

Walz is a public school champion who won’t allow right-wing extremists to jail teachers and librarians.

Walz is a union guy who was a member of a union when he worked in education. He understands working people and their struggles and won’t let Trump and Project 2025 denigrate our country’s strong labor heritage.

Walz is a parent who speaks openly about the difficult seven-year journey it took to conceive his daughter Hope through IVF. He will fight for women’s rights to decide if, how, and when to start a family.

As governor, Walz signed the mom bill (or "momnibus" bill), which established paid family leave and affordable childcare. He won’t be silent about Project 2025’s attacks against women in the workforce.

Walz is a savvy economist who pushed Minnesota up the rankings to the sixth best state in the nation for business. He knows that a strong working class means a strong economy and won’t our country be ruined by billionaires and their friends.

Walz is a church-goer who won’t use the name of Jesus to try to enrich himself or try to control people’s bodies or lives.

Walz is butter-carver who actually attends local county fairs and is genuinely invested in rural America as a member of the Agricultural Committee.

Walz is chair of the Democratic Governors Association who truly wants to see all Americans thrive and works every day to prove it.

Walz is a great messenger. He organically coined “weird Republicans” in an off-the-cuff speech that has resonated across the country and enraged conservatives.

Walz is a funny person who brings a level of levity to this race that is much needed. His jokes are good natured and self deprecating, not the depressing, gross, punching down type style of comedy we’re used to seeing from Trump, JD Vance, and the like.

Joking about his sometimes unorthodox casual attire, Walz said that sometimes when he arrives at events, the organizers aren’t sure if he’s going to give a speech or clean the rain gutters. When people were mean about his baldness, he quipped, “I supervised the school lunch room for 20 years. You don’t leave that job with hair. Trust me.”

Kamala Harris is HOPE. Tim Walz is HUMOR. And with them together, we’re going to win this thing.
