This Delegate from Montana is ALL IN for Kamala Harris!
What Democrats' Momentum Means for Project 2025
TODAY I officially pledged Kamala Harris as my choice for Democratic nominee for President of the United States.
I’m ALL IN for Harris!
The momentum behind her campaign has been incredible and the events that got us here — unprecedented. Finally, an unprecedented moment we can all rally behind!
I never expected to be part of this moment.
I began volunteering for the Democratic Party in 2017 because I felt betrayed by my evangelical Christian peers who went all in for Trump. I didn’t know where to put my frustration and anger, so I put it to work.
I began giving my time to Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America because I put my kids on a school bus every single day and worried about them being shot in their classrooms. I didn’t know where to put my frustration and anger, so I put it to work.
I planned a Queer Prom because I couldn’t stand the thought of teenagers in my community being ridiculed for being themselves and I wanted to create an event where they could be authentic and feel whole. I didn’t know where to put my frustration and anger, so I put it to work.
I didn’t imagine my activism rewarding me in such a big way.
I feel so incredibly honored that I get to be part of history. I felt warmth spread over me as I signed my ballot for Harris. I can’t believe that in a few short weeks I will be witnessing history unfold right in front of my eyes! I can’t wait to be energized by being in the same room as fellow Democrats, hear inspirational speeches by some of our time’s most impressive leaders, and meet my heroes from across the country.
Everything since 2016 has felt like a defense. As John Pavlovitz writes:
For the past eight years we’ve had a lot that is admirable. We’ve had convictions, we’ve had our values, we’ve had our burdens and our work and our efforts. We’ve had passion for the hurting and the helpless and the vulnerable. We’ve had a tenacity and perseverance that has kept the hatred at bay.
What’s been largely absent has been joy—and many of us are now realizing how much we’ve missed it: to feel expectancy again, to find ourselves in proximity to possibility, to believe better days are in the windshield and not just the rearview mirror.
It’s starting to feel safe to lean into joy.
Since President Joe Biden stepped out of the race and endorsed Harris for president, she has raised $200 million dollars, two-thirds of which have come from new donors.
360,000 new volunteers have pledged to help her win. She’s racked up an impressive list of celebrity endorsers like Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion, and Charli XCX, who are bringing in interest to the race from demographics that Trump is trying to capture — young people and Black voters.
Trump’s VP pick, J.D. Vance said of Harris’ momentum, “It was a bit of a sucker punch to be honest.”
Despite all the big names and numbers coalescing behind Harris, this race is not a done deal. In fact, it’s just getting started. And with less than 100 days until the election, every move Democrats make from here until Election Day will be consequential.
It will be existential. It will determine whether or not the home we’ve built in our country will continue to exist. It will determine whether or not November 5 will be our last vote, as Donald Trump suggested when he spoke at a Christian summit last week.
"Christians get out and vote. Just this time," he urged. "You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years. You know what? It'll be fixed. It'll be fine. You won't have to vote anymore my beautiful Christians.
"I love you Christians and I'm a Christian. I love you, you got to get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again. We'll have it fixed so good, you're not going to have to vote."
Trump’s apologists claim he was not referencing the end of voting, simply admonishing Christians who habitually skip the polls to vote for him just this once.
But we know the truth. Trump announced he would be a dictator on Day 1 if given a second chance.
Extremists put their plan to dismantle democracy and weaken the will of the people in Project 2025, a document drawn up by rightwing think tanks and billionaire benefactors.
Project 2025 doesn’t just allude to authoritarianism. It outright spells it out.
It gives Trump the power to pardon lawbreakers who he deems political peers and imprison anyone he considers an enemy.
It retaliates against government workers who pursued diversity, equity, and inclusion or educators who taught historical truths like that white Europeans were responsible for the death and displacement of many Native Americans.
It allows politicians to make decisions about other people’s bodies and invites them into the doctor’s office with women making reproductive choices.
It allows Trump to trample First Amendments rights and use violence to quell lawful protests.
It would use military force against citizens Trump deems enemies of the state.
Republicans know that once Americans understand what Project 2025 actually says, they will reject their theocratic authoritarian plans. That’s why they’ve tried to distance themselves from it. But Project 2025 is not only out there for all the world to see. It’s also dangerously close to becoming a reality.
This election will be decided in the margins. So here’s what we have to do:
Tell EVERYONE about Project 2025.
Subscribe to this substack and share it with a friend. The more people who know about Project 2025, the closer we are to defeating it.
Onward, Democracy Defenders!
P.S. I’m tossing out one more reminder that I’m fundraising for my trip to Chicago to see Harris in person and be among the first to hear her VP pick. Delegates fund their own way to the Democratic National Convention. I’m sharing a personal synopsis of the activities with everyone who helps get me to Chicago in a DNC newsletter specifically for donors. If you’d like to receive this personal account of my trip, click here to donate.
When Trump says the phrase, “my beautiful Christians,” I feel like I’ve been slimed!
I’d like to see Mayor Pete on the ticket as VP. Too many lawyers being considered. Pete’s military service makes for good balance. It’s time we consider balance without getting hung up on sexual identity. AZ Senator selection can hurt down ticket Montanans because of the sad reality of how pro-gun the state is. I want our Montana Blue ‘Islands’ to perform respectably. Feel free to pass on to other delegates. Thank you for your devoted service !
