A Woman Shouldn't Vote for a Woman Just Because She's a Woman
Let me know what you think in the comments
I watched a TikTok creator tell her followers she will not be voting for a Black woman despite being a Black woman herself because in her mind, Kamala Harris has never done anything for women. So I made a video about it in response.
Follow me on Instagram.
This creator didn’t say it very well, but she’s basically talking about a principal I generally agree with:
Voters should choose who they support based on the Policy not the Person.
Don’t vote for Kamala Harris because she’s a woman. Vote for Kamala Harris because you are.
Pregnancy will never kill a man. Ending a pregnancy will always just be a concept to him — something he has an opinion about but not life or death stake in. For women, when a pregnancy goes wrong, it can be fatal. And women who live in red states across the country are discovering that for themselves in incredibly tragic ways.
Like this woman in Idaho had to wait 19 days for medical help from her miscarriage because of the state’s strict abortion laws.
Or the women who live in Alabama and could face criminal charges for having an abortion even if the pregnancy is nonviable thanks to Republicans constantly threatening their right to bodily autonomy.
Or Oklahoma, where Republicans want a database of your medical procedures related to fertility.
Or the OBGYNs who are fleeing the state of Louisiana due to its onerous abortion laws. No doctors means no medical treatment.
Or in Arkansas, where women have to carry a slowly dying fetus to term, despite the risk it puts on their own lives and future fertility.
Or North Dakota, which won’t allow any abortion for any reason, not even medical emergencies.
Or Texas, where a mother had to be rushed to another state to have an emergency abortion in order to save her life and future chances of conceiving.
There isn’t a single woman on this planet who doesn’t know that pregnancy can kill, but that hasn’t stopped the GOP from their wholesale assault on essential, life-saving women’s health care.
Those destructive sadists would rather see women die than give women an inch of autonomy over our own bodies.
The GOP is normalizing nightmares, and every state in the nation will be living in that nightmare if Trump is re-elected and Project 2025 turns into reality.
Project 2025 promises the “Dobbs decision was just the beginning” and that a nation-wide abortion ban is in store.
It states that women who find themselves in “immensely difficult and often tragic situations” should be willing to demonstrate their “heroism” by becoming mothers.
Project 2025 will scrub references to the words “abortion,” “reproductive health,” and “sexual reproductive rights” from all federal websites.
Despite mountains of evidence to the contrary, on Page 265 it claims that banning abortion will not negatively affect women’s maternal health.
Project 2025 demands that the FDA outlaw mifepristone and misopristol, two abortion medications that have been used administered safely and effectively for two decades.
It will disallow women in the military from having an abortion under any circumstances.
Kamala Harris has pledged to restore the protections of Roe and undo the damage Donald Trump began when he appointed three conservative members to the Supreme Court.
I want to tell this creator, “Look, you have every right not to like Kamala Harris. She will fight for you regardless. Because she doesn’t want you to die and leave your other children without a mother because a standard procedure available to women who have had a miscarriage is no longer an option, so the tissue inside your body just festers and goes septic and you’re slowly poisoned to death from the inside.”
Don’t vote for Kamala Harris because she is a woman. Vote for her because you are.
Onward, Democracy Defenders!
I love that she’s a woman. However, if it were Biden against Phyllis Schafly, I’d vote Biden. So I guess her sex alone isn’t enough for me. It’s the policies,
I love everything about Kamala and the fact that she’s a woman makes it even better because she knows exactly what we have to deal with, she understands better than any man can, she can relate. I am absolutely voting for her, no questions asked, especially because Biden has endorsed her, it was so amazing of him to do that to step aside and embrace her as his future successor. I do also agree with her policies, too, but I am definitely voting for her just like I voted for Hillary in 2016. (I’m hoping 2024 has a more desirable outcome, though, what happened in 2016 was an absolute travesty). Kamala Harris and Tim Walz 2024! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
